# Learn by playing.

Practice your first deductions on a small board. Highlighted squares are your next move; outlined numbers are the clues behind it.

## What you’re learning.

The lesson uses a fixed 5 × 5 board with four mines. First compare each clue with its covered neighbors. When every possible neighbor must be a mine, flag it. When all mines around a clue are flagged, reveal its other neighbors. Repeat these deductions until every safe square is open.

The tiny board uses the same deduction rules as the full game. A clue with all its mines accounted for makes its other neighbors safe. A clue that needs as many mines as it has unopened neighbors identifies every one of them as a mine.
