Custom games and saved presets

Choose Custom game above the board. Set 5–100 rows, 5–100 columns and at least one mine. No-guess mode allows up to 22% mine density, rounded down. Classic allows up to the number of squares minus nine, reserving space for a safe first opening. Boards larger than 3,600 squares use Classic view.

Every no-guess board passes our logical solver before play begins. If generation cannot find a verified board, it asks you to retry or lower the mine count. It never substitutes an unverified random board. Classic random boards can require guesses.

Enable No flags for a memory challenge with separate records. Enter an optional seed to repeat a puzzle with the same settings and opening; seeded games are practice. Name and save up to eight favorite setups in this browser. Favorites retain dimensions, mine count and mode choices.

Controls, display and sound

Settings apply immediately and save on this device when browser storage is available. Opening the options pauses an active game. Closing them resumes that round unless you started a different board.

A chord opens a revealed number’s covered neighbors when its adjacent flag count matches. Incorrect flags can cause a loss. Choose single-click, double-click, middle-click or Off. Middle-click and both mouse buttons also chord unless chording is disabled.

  • Question marks: optionally cycle covered → flag → question → covered. A question mark is not a flag and does not prevent revealing the square.
  • Touch: tap to reveal or choose Flag mode. Hold-to-flag delay ranges from 200 to 900 ms; the default is 420 ms. Optional vibration depends on browser support.
  • Keyboard: Tab enters the board; arrows move focus. Enter reveals or chords; F flags; Space flags a covered square or chords a clue. Hovering a square and pressing Space also works. P pauses, N starts a new game outside controls, and F2 starts a new game.
  • Display: choose Dark, Light or Follow device. Classic skins are Studio, Classic 1990s and High contrast, with center or left alignment. Board zoom ranges from 60% to 200%; the default is 100%.
  • Island atmosphere: choose Sunshine, Sea breeze, Rain shower or Golden hour below the island or in Settings. These are visual effects, not live local weather. Sea life adds a whale and calf, fish shoals, fishing and sailing boats, wakes and seabirds. Turn Sea life off to hide them. Weather and sea life never change the puzzle or reveal mine positions; your choices save on this device.
  • Views: Island, Top-down and Classic show the same live puzzle. Full screen is available in supported browsers. You can disable game animations; your device’s reduced-motion preference takes priority.
  • Sound starts off, with volume set to 65%. Adjust volume from 0% to 100%. Hiding the timer removes its display but does not stop timekeeping.

Share a board or save your progress

After your first opening, choose Share & save. Copy a board link or code to reproduce that puzzle and its opening. A board link starts the puzzle again; it does not copy your current moves. Paste a link or code into the import field to load it as practice.

Export a JSON save to preserve revealed squares, markers and elapsed time. Import it by pasting the JSON or selecting the file. Saves are parsed locally and are not uploaded to a game server. An exported save contains every mine position, so someone reading the file can see the solution.

Shared, imported, seeded and hand-designed games are practice: they cannot set personal bests or extend a Daily streak. Opening a shared link asks you to load the board before replacing your game. Copying a link or result never posts it automatically.

Design your own minefield

The Board editor supports square boards of 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12 or 16 squares per side. Choose a size, select Place mines and click squares to add or remove mines. Changing the size clears the layout. Clear mines removes them all.

Select Set opening to choose the first revealed square. That square and its neighbors must remain mine-free. Check logic tests whether our solver can clear your layout from that opening. A failed check means this solver did not find a complete path; it does not prove the puzzle has no logical solution. Play the board or create a link to share it. Designed boards remain practice even after passing the check.

The Daily archive

Choose today or a date from the previous 365 days. Each UTC date generates a fixed 12 × 12 no-guess board with 24 mines and the same safe opening for everyone. The date changes at midnight UTC.

Past dates are practice and cannot repair or extend a Daily streak. Today follows the normal rules: win on your first attempt without hints to extend your streak. Restarting counts as a replay. Starting another board during an active round records the abandoned round as a loss.

Achievements and personal records

These 16 achievements use your saved results. Total-clear achievements include practice wins. Speed and mode achievements require a qualifying personal record: a win without hints or replaying the puzzle. Classic, no-guess and No flags records stay separate. Custom records also distinguish dimensions and mine count.

Advanced statistics show game-changing actions and actions per second, rather than every physical click. After a round, 3BV counts the minimum reveal clicks without flags or chording: one per empty-region opening, plus each safe numbered square those openings do not reveal. 3BV per second divides that value by playing time.

Generation and pause time are excluded. These are personal, pausable times, not verified tournament results or a global leaderboard. Progress is local to this browser; clearing site data removes saves, favorites, achievements and records.
